Less Is More In Luxury
Less is more? Really?
At first, it seems counterintuitive. Surely, when it comes to holidays, you’d want more – more destinations, more experiences, more luxury? But let’s be honest: that logic doesn’t always hold. Would you really want more stress, more rushing around, or more boxes to tick?
Think of fine dining compared to an all-you-can-eat buffet. Both have their place, but when you want to be truly indulged and receive personal attention, which one would you choose?
At Your Luxury Holiday, we believe the same applies to travel. Sometimes, by doing less or visiting fewer places, you end up experiencing much more.
Let us explain.

The Changing Pace of Travel
Over the last 30 years working in travel, I’ve witnessed enormous shifts – some good, some not so much. One of the biggest changes has been the pace at which people now travel.
Once, holidays were about spending a couple of weeks unwinding on a beach or immersing yourself in a single destination. Later, the rise of long-haul travel made it easier to explore exotic locations, often with a generous amount of time in each place. Travellers ventured out with the spirit of Phileas Fogg – exploring faraway places, yet staying long enough to really take them in.
Then, something changed.
Suddenly, it became more about being seen in places than actually seeing them. Travel became a checklist. The question became: “Where else can I squeeze in?” But a holiday isn’t a pair of shoes to force your feet into. It’s time to relax, to soak up culture, sample unfamiliar foods, meet new people, and reconnect with family and friends.
Rushing from one spot to another doesn’t define luxury. For us, real luxury is the ability to slow down and truly appreciate where you are.
Time: The Ultimate Luxury
Money can always be replaced. Time cannot.
Time is the one thing we can’t get back. That’s what makes it the greatest luxury of all. When you’re taking time out for yourself, you deserve to make every moment count.
You may travel far, but that doesn’t mean you can’t return to a destination you love. In fact, when you stay longer and travel more slowly, you experience a place on a much deeper level. You begin to understand it, feel part of it, and see things many tourists miss entirely.
Of course, knowing where to spend more time – and which places have the depth you’re looking for – can be tricky. That’s where we come in.
At Your Luxury Holiday, we help you explore the places that truly match your tastes and interests. Not everyone enjoys the same kind of trip, and that’s a good thing. Whether you’re drawn to nature and the wilderness, or you’re a passionate foodie wanting to learn the secrets of regional cuisine, the best experiences often take time to uncover.
Think about chefs like Anthony Bourdain or Rick Stein – they didn’t just pass through. They stayed. They immersed themselves. That’s how real discovery happens.

Saving Time By Travelling Slowly
Ironically, travelling slowly often saves time. Each time you check out of a hotel, travel to the next location, and check in again, you lose time. Realistically, that’s half a day gone every time you move.
And in today’s world, check-out is usually by lunchtime, while check-in often doesn’t start until the afternoon. That leaves you in limbo – packing the night before, having breakfast, and then waiting to depart. Possibly my least favourite kind of waiting.
Airports, transfers, hotel lobbies… they all take away from the time you could be spending relaxing, exploring, or simply enjoying your surroundings.
When we design your trip, we look at ways to reduce these lost hours. We help you make the most of each place, while limiting unnecessary travel. That’s where true luxury lies – in getting more from every day.
A Personalised Aproach to Travel
So how do we help you travel slower, and experience more?
It starts with a chat. Ideally, we’d speak on the phone, via video, or meet in person. We’re happy to use email, but we prefer to talk – it allows us to hear what matters to you, ask the right questions, and uncover those little details that lead to the perfect trip.
We don’t push destinations. We guide. Sometimes, we’ll even tell you not to go if we don’t think it’s right – because we value your time that much.
From there, we create a bespoke itinerary that suits your style, your pace, and your travel companions. Every trip we plan is as unique as the person taking it. Some elements may be similar to others, but the way they’re woven together is entirely your own.
